The “50 Best” collections have been created by IHRA in order to provide free, accessible harm reduction resources on its website. The idea is to highlight around 50 papers in each area of harm reduction which best summarise the evidence-base, reasoning and justification for harm reduction interventions and approaches. These resources can then be used by other researchers, policy-makers, advocates or anyone interested in the field.
Each collection is the result of thorough literature searches and liaison with groups of experts in the field. The “best” papers are selected in terms of whether or not they are recent, brief, readable, accredited by an international organisation, published in respected journals, and scientifically rigorous. Additionally, preference was given to documents that are of practical use to advocates, policy makers, programme managers and harm reduction practitioners. For each collection, where possible, one key paper has also been chosen for people who have limited time and just want a good summary of the field, debate and issues.
Crucially, these collections are not an attempt to compile a scientific, objective or quantitative content analysis on the individual topics. They are intended as an accessible resource rather than a scientifically rigorous investigation. The collections are periodically reviewed and we would also welcome any suggestions or feedback. Please contact IHRA if you have any enquiries, recommendations or comments.
