Satellite Meeting at Harm Reduction 2008: IHRA’s 19th International Conference
Barcelona, Spain

University of Barcelona School of Nursing
Saturday May 10th 2008
08:30 – 15:30

Organised by the International Nursing Harm Reduction Network (INHRN)

The International Nursing Harm Reduction Network (INHRN) is pleased to announce their 3rd satellite conference entitled ‘The Global Contribution of Nursing to Harm Reduction’. As nurses working on the front line for harm reduction, it is time, once again, to gather together to share our knowledge, best practice and experiences. This event is aimed at anyone working in the field of harm reduction nursing or wishing to expand their knowledge of the care of people with substance use issues.

This satellite meeting will take place on Saturday, May 10th 2008 (the day before the opening of Harm Reduction 2008: IHRA’s 19th International Conference). It will take place at the
University of Barcelona’s School of Nursing (Campus de Bellvitge, Barcelona).

This meeting will look out all possible aspects of nursing practice and its contribution towards the development of harm reduction. We will be looking at a number of different topics including global approaches to harm reduction in nursing, blood borne viruses, drug consumption rooms, alcohol and tobacco, primary care responses to drug use, treatment in prisons, recreational drug use, and many more.

The International Nursing Harm Reduction Network (INHRN) was formed following the first Harm Reduction Nursing Satellite held in association with IHRA’s 17th International Conference on the Reduction of Drug Related Harms (Vancouver, Canada, May 2006). INHRN is an international coalition of nurses working in a variety of community, prison, and acute care hospital settings, all of whom share a commitment to the philosophy of harm reduction and are committed to providing pragmatic, accessible, and respectful health care.
