There are independent harm reduction networks for regions around the world – such as Asia, Central and Eastern Europe and Africa. However, for a variety of reasons, there has never been one for Western Europe. At the 13th International Conference on the Reduction of Drug Related Harm in Ljubljana, Slovenia (in 2002), a meeting was held to discuss the formation of such a network. It was unanimously agreed that a network was needed, but there were insufficient resources at the time to establish one.
This meeting aims to re-assess the situation in Western Europe and discuss the potential formation of a Western European Harm Reduction Network. The agenda for the meeting will be around a discussion paper prepared by an initial steering group from around Europe.
If you have an interest in, or opinion about, the possible formation of such a network, we would welcome you to attend this open meeting. At this meeting, we hope to secure interest and commitments from key individuals and organisations across Europe in order to further the development of this network.
