Getting Un-Hooked: Tackling Scotland's Drug Problem

Joining the Dots: Criminal Justice, Treatment and Harm Reduction

This is the first conference of the new ‘Connections’ project. The aim of the conference is to facilitate the development of knowledge and an evidence base for different harm reduction and drug-free interventions for drug users, which can be implemented throughout all the phases of the criminal justice process – from arrest, through police detention, prosecution and incarceration, to release and supervision in the community.

IHRA and the Conference Consortium are pleased to announce the latest in a long-running series of international harm reduction conferences. In April 2009, as the conference once again comes to Thailand, the theme will be “Harm Reduction and Human Rights”. The theme for this event is 'Empowering People, Strengthening Networks'. With increased mobility in-country and migration across borders, nations can no longer expect to work alone in its response to HIV and AIDS, and so working with people (rather than countries) is increasingly important, as is enabling regional and international co-operation through networks.

This is the "world's premier gathering of people who believe that the war on drugs is doing more harm than good". Topics for discussion include alternatives to prohibition, civil liberties, drug testing, harm reduction and legislative reform.
