IHRA and the Conference Consortium, in association with Liverpool John Moores University, are pleased to invite you to Harm Reduction 2010: IHRA’s 21st International Conference, which will take place from the 25th to the 29th April 2010 in Liverpool, England (the location of the first ever conference in this series back in 1990).
For two decades, the annual international harm reduction conferences have grown in importance and become the main meeting point for all those wishing to discuss and discover innovative harm reduction approaches around the world. These events have helped to put harm reduction on the map.
Over five days, Harm Reduction 2010 will provide a platform for advocacy, debate, and discussion through a range of different sessions and presentations – including high profile opening and closing speeches, plenary sessions, symposia and workshops – an international film festival, exhibitions, satellite meetings, social and networking events, and the annual IHRA award presentations.
The theme for 2010 is ‘Harm Reduction: The Next Generation’, as IHRA aims to discuss what is needed in order to move into the next decade of harm reduction – how adequate are the models of harm reduction that have been developed? ‘The Next Generation’ embodies young people, new populations (such as those in Africa and Latin America), new interventions (addressing, for example, non-injecting use), and new challenges (such as the need to improve global resourcing for harm reduction). In essence, Harm Reduction 2010 will be an opportunity to move forward and showcase the latest research, policies and best practice in this field.
