Bangkok is easy reachable by air from most major airports around the world. The national airline is Thai Airways, which operates domestic, regional and intercontinental flights from Bangkok. Other local airlines include Bangkok Airways, Orient Thai Airlines and Thai Air Asia.
Bangkok is served by two airports:
- Suvarnabhumi Airport (also known as the New Bangkok International Airport), which opened in 2006 and serves as the major international airport.
- Don Muang Airport (also known as the Old Bangkok International Airport), which was replaced by Suvarnabhumi Airport but re-opened again in 2007 for smaller, domestic flights.
Suvarnabhumi International Airport is situated 25km (15 miles) east of Bangkok and the journey into the city centre varies between 30 minutes and 1 hour.
Licensed taxis are located outside the arrivals terminal of the airport. There is a departure tax of at least 500 Baht and the taxi meter should be turned on before departure. Credit cards are not accepted.
