For each conference, the International Harm Reduction Association (IHRA) and the Conference Consortium aim to provide as many scholarships as possible – especially for speakers, people who use drugs and local delegates.
As in previous years, there has been a huge demand for scholarships and waived registrations for Harm Reduction 2009. Scholarship support is entirely dependent on contributions from international donors such as UNAIDS and the International Harm Reduction Development (IHRD) program of the Open Society Institute. Each donor has their own priorities and criteria as to who can be supported, and priority is given to those who are presenting at the event.
Unfortunately, donor support for Harm Reduction 2009 has not been as high as in previous years, but we still hope to be able to provide around 200 full or partial scholarships to delegates – particularly those from Thailand, South East Asia and drug user organisations.

Other Sources of Support

IHRA will never be able to meet the demand for scholarships for our conferences, so we strongly recommend that those seeking support to attend the conference approach their regional and national UN organisations, international NGOs, governments and other potential funders. The Conference Consortium is happy to provide letters of support as part of this process.
