Thailand is a land of geographical contracts – from the mountainous north and the picturesque southern beaches. It is bordered to the North by Myanmar and Laos, to the East by Cambodia and to the South by Malaysia. It is the only country in South-East Asia never to have been colonised and has retained centuries-old traditions and customs.
The city of Bangkok – or ‘Krung Thep Maha Nakhon’ as it is known to the Thais (Krung Thep for short) – is the capital of Thailand. It is built on a bend in the ‘River of Kings’ and has a population of around 10 million people. It is a vibrant city which offers something for all tastes.
