Damon Barrett joined Harm Reduction International in 2007 as Human Rights Analyst and until 2011 headed up our human rights programme. In 2012 Damon became Deputy Director and now oversees our advocacy strategy while continuing to lead on our human rights research and policy analysis.
Damon is a co-founder of the International Centre on Human Rights and Drug Policy, based at the University of Essex, and an Editor-in-Chief of the journal Human Rights and Drugs.
He is editor of 'Children of the Drug War: Perspectives on the impact of drug policies on young people' (iDebate Press, 2011) and author of 'A Commentary on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: Article 33, Protection from Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances' (Brill/Martinus Nijhoff, 2012)
Damon is a Visiting Fellow at the Human Rights Centre, University of Essex and was a member of the UK delegation to the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs from 2008-2011.
