Punjab: Basmati will make farmers rich, price will be higher by ₹ 700 per quintal
Basmati, also known as "white pearl" in the market, has started to arrive in significant quantities. Over the course of Saturday and Monday, approximately 15,000 quintals of Amritsar Basmati have been brought to the five largest mandis (wholesale markets) in the district. Although the crop still has a high moisture content, which requires farmers to dry it on the spot, they are receiving higher prices compared to last year.
According to agent Narinder Bahal, farmers received prices ranging from Rs 2,800 to Rs 3,000 per quintal for Basmati during the same period last year. However, this year, they are already getting prices between Rs 3,500 to Rs 3,750 per quintal, representing an increase of Rs 700 to Rs 750.
