Controversy in Indian tennis: Committee angry over removal of captain

All India Tennis Association Working Committee members are shocked and angry over Vishal Uppal being removed from the captaincy of the Indian team in the Billie Jean King Cup. They said that their opinion was not taken on such an important decision. The association had announced on Monday that Shalini Thakur Chawla would replace Uppal as the captain.

Association general secretary Anil Dhupar said he had spoken to Haryana Tennis Association secretary Suman Kapoor, but Kapoor said he was only informed of the decision when it should have been discussed in the working committee meeting. Uppal was also not told about this decision in advance. Kapoor has demanded to call an emergency meeting of the working committee. Another member said that Dhupar was taking decisions unilaterally.
