Punjab: 12.40 lakh cheated in the name of sending to Canada, accused absconded with family

A councilor in Moga transferred 12.40 lakh rupees to the accounts of two brothers, Akhtar Ali Sonu and Athar Ali Monu Krishna Nagar, a year ago to send his nephew to Canada. However, the nephew was not sent abroad and the money was not returned. On January 29, both brothers fled Moga along with their families. Councilor Jaspreet Singh Vicky, a resident of Sant Nagar, reported the incident to the SSP on January 28. After an investigation lasting 5 months, a case has been registered against the brothers. Station City One ASI Malkit Singh confirmed the case. The councilor had deposited the money in the brothers’ accounts as the nephew wanted to go abroad. However, after 8 months, the nephew was not sent abroad and the money was not returned.”
