Punjab: SHO fined Rs 15,000 for not giving RTI information

The Punjab State Information Commission in Chandigarh has imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the Station House Officer (SHO) of Talwandi Sabo for failing to provide information requested under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Additionally, action will be taken against the Public Information Officer (PIO) responsible for not depositing the fine amount in the government treasury within 20 days.
According to RTI activist Sanjeev Goyal, the case was filed two years ago in the court of Anumit Singh Sodhi, Commissioner of the Punjab State Information Commission in Chandigarh. On May 17, the SHO, who also serves as the Public Information Officer for Talwandi Sabo, was fined for not providing the requested information within the stipulated time frame and for not attending the four court hearings up until that point.
