World Athletics: Three Indians in the final of an event for the first time

On the seventh day of the World Athletics Championship, Indian athletes showcased an impressive performance, particularly in the javelin throw event. Out of the 12 athletes who qualified for the final, three of them were Indians, marking the first time in the history of the World Athletics Championship that three Indians reached the finals of a single event.
Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic champion, had a remarkable performance on Friday. In his first attempt, he surpassed the season’s best mark with a throw of 88.77m. Neeraj only needed a throw of 83.00m to secure his spot in the finals, and he comfortably achieved that. This qualification also guarantees Neeraj’s participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics. After securing his place, Neeraj did not make any further attempts.
In addition to Neeraj, two other Indian athletes, Manu DP and Kishore Jena, also qualified for the finals. Manu, a 23-year-old athlete, secured her spot with a throw of 81.31m. Meanwhile, Jena reached the finals with a throw of 80.55m
